By releasing standardised, national scale data through its platform, Stream empowers a wide pool of innovators with access to larger, more comprehensive datasets, enabling them to address pressing sector, societal and environmental challenges. Data use cases inform data publication activity and are scored and prioritised for delivery. The UN SDGs are incorporated into the scoring methodology.
By facilitating the publication of trusted, standardised, high-quality open and shared data from the water sector, Stream aims to achieve the following benefits:
· Enhance transparency, engagement and trust
· Provide reusable data and technology to accelerate future innovation projects
· Improve sector-wide data maturity and culture
· Enable data-driven innovation
The world we’re all operating in isn’t simple and it is changing at an accelerated rate. We’ve all felt the disruption of climate change and the impacts of a transitioning energy system, intensifying the complexity of water management and the need for resilience. These problems exist in a complex system-of-systems and, as a result, they cannot be solved alone. To make the change demanded by customers, society, the economy and the environment, water companies must collaborate and innovate with other sectors and stakeholders. This relies upon open and shared data. Stream is a collaboration between 16 major water companies in the UK, united by a shared vision to unlock water data to deliver value to customers, society and the environment.
A transformative plan to expand the reach, scale and capabilities of Stream. As well as releasing more data, we intend to advance our existing services and pioneering new approaches in:
1) Participatory data - involving citizens in the collection and use of data to solve challenges that affect them
2) Solving cross sector use cases - bringing data from different sectors together to solve common problems, particularly in respect of climate related change
3) Support the rise of AI - publish data in a way that optimises safe and ethical use by machines
4) Fuelling research and markets - enabling the development of new products and services to solve water-related problems
Stream has a well-established process to convert strategy and annual achievement state targets into quarterly objectives and key results to ensure outcomes will be delivered. Routine reporting is established to track and monitor progress and progress is shared openly.
