About us

Commit to Data was launched at the fifth UN World Data Forum in Medellín, Colombia, in 2024 as a collaborative action platform to strengthen data systems for sustainable development. Building on the momentum of UNWDF 2024, the initiative is currently tracking and updating existing commitments while expanding to collect new ones ahead of UNWDF 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Why Commit to Data Matters

Data is essential for sustainable and inclusive development, yet persistent gaps continue to limit impact. Commit to Data responds by providing a shared platform for action—bringing together diverse partners to strengthen data systems where they are needed most and accelerate progress toward the SDGs. Through the Road to Riyadh, the initiative sustains momentum from UNWDF 2024 to UNWDF 2026, supporting implementation, tracking progress, and mobilizing new commitments along the way.

Our Focus & Goals

From Dialogue to Impact

The primary goal is to ensure that the outcomes of the UN World Data Forum (UNWDF) generate tangible, positive impacts for individuals. This means translating discussions and commitments into real-world results.

Medellín to Riyadh

The campaign's core focus is on sustaining the energy from the 2024 Medellín forum, providing actionable steps and strategic guidance for sustainable and inclusive development leading up to the 2026 UNWDF in Riyadh.

Building on Past Progress

Our work is built upon the foundation of previous UNWDFs, including the Cape Town Global Action Plan. The aim is to advance the data-for-SDGs community toward its 2030 targets by using data to improve lives.

Actionable implementation

The initiative is laser-focused on moving beyond talk to providing concrete, actionable steps that ensure dialogues and commitments from Medellín are effectively translated into action.
