UNFPA aims to support countries and territories across Eastern Europe, Western Balkans and Central Asia to build inclusive register-based statistical systems.
Governments and the National Statistical Offices in Eastern Europe and Central Asia are interested in making greater use of administrative data in official statistics and building statistical digital infrastructure for a register-based statistical system. To do so, NSOs have to invest in their digital infrastructure, data interoperability, partnership with other data holders and data governance.
UNFPA Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia will work with Governments and other stakeholders in integration of the administrative data in official statistics and transition towards a register-based statistical system.
UNFPA will develop capacities of National Statistical Offices on using administrative data, support them in building statistical population registers and offer technical assistance in conducting a combined or register-based census in the framework of the 2030 census round. To advance this work, UNFPA will support institutional development of the national statistical systems with a view of starting a long-term transition to a register-based statistical system.
UNFPA will annually assess progress in preparing for the next census round based on the consultations with the National Statistical Offices and in cooperation with UNFPA Country Offices.
