Objective

Strengthen the transparency and reproducibility of economic evidence used across the MENA region by making selected official statistics traceable from the published analytical value back to the original institutional release, statistical vintage, revision history and transformation process.

Description:
What problem is this commitment aiming to solve?

Economic statistics across the MENA region are frequently distributed across changing web pages, PDF releases, statistical tables and institutional databases. Historical values may be revised, indicator definitions may differ across jurisdictions, and downstream research often preserves the reported number without preserving the evidence trail that produced it.

This makes cross-country comparison, historical reconstruction and independent reproduction unnecessarily difficult.

MENA Open Data & Evidence Lab will address this gap by building open evidence-lineage records around selected high-value economic indicators.

Briefly describe the commitment including key activities, strategies and intended outcomes.

The Lab will identify and archive official statistical releases; capture retrieval dates and vintages; document revisions; record indicator definitions and comparability limitations; preserve transformation logic; publish machine-readable provenance metadata; provide Arabic and English metadata for selected objects; and release reproducibility materials alongside selected datasets and research outputs.

Describe how you will monitor progress and evaluate the success of this commitment?

The initiative aims to cover at least 10 MENA economies and five major economic indicator families; catalogue at least 250 official releases; provide source/provenance records for all observations published through the initiative; maintain a public revision register; publish at least three reproducible data or research objects; and complete at least one externally executed reproduction.
